I grew up camping and hiking. That was my parents idea of a vacation and I loved every minute of it. We did tent camping, mostly in established campgrounds, but also some primitive camping. I loved the primitive camping and even did some of that with scouts. Most important during this time was the building of my love of nature. I gained a great appreciation for it with all the time we spent in it.
As an adult I got out when I could and hiked but with an active family this didn't happen as much as I would have liked. I did get into nature photography as my kids got older. When they left home and life was empty without all the time at ballfields and the track, we decided to start traveling for my photography and we bought a tent camper. This changed my life. We started visiting State and National Parks out west and I fell in love with traveling and capture the views and wildlife as I went. The became a huge passion in my life. As time went along, we purchase a 23ft travel trailer which was a bit of a pain to deal with. I started doing some smaller trips on my own - with photography as a focus, and I purchased a tent that would attach to my SUV for these trips. Often I would have my kayak with me to also capture photos on. I have often played with video and I found myself capturing more and more video to help tell my story to go along with my photos. I even purchase a drone to help. I started traveling with my camera more and capturing photos all around the country and sharing the story.
I was looking for something more entertaining to watch on tv and looking for shows about travel and hiking etc. and I discovered Alone - a series on the History channel. I was fascinated and even watched all the seasons again with my husband. After watching the Alone series l, I knew that I wanted to get back to primitive camping and learn some bushcraft skills. My husband came up with the idea that I do some Alone adventures myself - I loved that idea. One thing that fascinated me with the show was they did their own videoing - cool - I could do that!! But how do I tie it in with my photography - well I take my camera with me and make that part of my trip. So that is what I'm planning to do. No only will I capture my story with videography but I will photograph the area and bring that in also. On Alone they have staff that does - B roll, to drop into the videos. I wanted to take it a step further, do that myself and really bring in the environment and wildlife through photography and tie it all together. That is my plan - we will see how it works - ha.
